The first exploring visits undertaken by Blessed Victoire RASOAMANARIVO in 1873 two years after the arrival of the 1st Jesuit missionary (Father Finaz), followed by the mission undertaken by Blessed Father Jacques Bertieu and the long duty done by Blessed Father Jean Beyzim at the Marana leprosy Home, and above all the burial of Blessed Brother Rafiringa during 14 years at the Kianjasoa Mission have fertilized the field of our mission and has produced many vocations.

The Catholic Church was then very well implanted in Fianarantsoa. Everything became easy thanks to the support of the numerous religious congregations working with the Church since the arrival of the first Jesuit missionaries in 1871 and the Saint Joseph de Cluny sisters in 1872.

School, youth formation for development, hospital and clinics together with movements for catholic actions were the main activities those men and women following the Christ undertook.  Their life’s token and their charisma are the sign of a fertile activity in our region.

Fianarantsoa town is situated 400ks south Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. The Fianarantsoa diocese stretches out on an important area, which exceeds 25 000 km². The Loholoka chapel situated by the Ampasimanjeva seaside is about 220km away from Fianarantsao. The surrounding districts situated on the RN 7 (National Road n°7), Soamandroso by the north and Ankaramena by the south are respectively 100 and 90 km away from the Centre of Fianarantsoa.
